BADLANDS
Halsey's first album was produced in 2015 and tells a story of her personal battles in life. The signature single, "Ghost", which focuses on a relationship that has no benefits to her. Click on the song name to listen to the single and watch the video.
Here is a video of Halsey explaining her own personal experiences that created Ghost.
The rest of the album follows a similar theme, with metaphors such as abandoned houses, demons and monarchies to bring to life her personal feelings. It creates for a more mystical style album and is something new to the music industry.
This album is written to follow the story of a modern day "Romeo and Juliet." It links the love story to the present by the upbeat and heavier style of music. The title song, "Now or Never", follows the same Narrative as the Shakespearean play. It matches Halsey's other music videos well, since they all are Narrative style. It uses close up shots of intimate moments between Halsey and her love interest to present love itself and not just the relationship she has herself. It spreads the message of the damage love can do and what hate and prejudice can do to it. The album furthers the story with each track, until the ultimate conclusion is reached in the final one. This use of chronology in an album is effective as it brings about a new way of telling stories and bringing ideas to life. Click here to listen to the full album.
Halsey has been widely successful despite having only recently entered the music industry. She has won a number of awards, including the iHeartRadio Award for "Dance Song of the Year" and the Billboard Music Award for "Best Dance Song".
