Genre Focus: Grime

This music genre is very new and only recently recognised. It is modern and upbeat, with each song usually consisting a rapper throughout, or a collaboration with a singer. The genre brings about a new aspect to the music industry: it more often than not contains taboo language and lexical fields such as drugs and alcoholism. Stereotypically, the genre's most popular artists are mainly Black men, suggesting how this may be a growth of its individual and different origins and could have been created due to this. However, there are many other artists that are considered as "Grime" artists.

Here are a few examples of popular Grime artists:

Stormzy

A British Grime artist who usually talks about more controversial and meaning topics, which portray a message to many who may want to be like him. He includes personal links such as directing his family and friends. The simplicity of the music underneath the rapping helps to emphasise what is being said.

Bugzy Malone

Another British artist who uses heavy beats and editing that matches the music to create a new and individual experience for their audience. They use popular trends such as social media and famous artists to portray messages and tell stories.

JME

This artist follows a similar style to that of the other two artists, with a heavy beat emphasising the unique and very slang-orientated rapping style.
